Artist Statement
These two images are of my dog, Suki. I've had her since I was very young and she's very important to me. She has a very gentle demeanor and is one of the calmest dogs I've ever met. As she gets old, I photograph her often to ensure I will have memories of her always. I wanted to talk these photos with as plain of a background as I could find so I could really focus on her face and eyes. I used a ring light to make sure the photo was bright and clear. I had to bribe her with treats to get her to sit still. There was a lot of things in the background, so it was difficult to frame these pictures. For the composition, I really like the balance of the second picture, it almost appears symmetrical. Another thing I attempted to accomplish was reflecting light off of her eyes, as I really wanted to highlight them. In the first picture, I tried to use a sort of framing by pointing her ears and nose towards the corners of the picture to draw ones eyes into the center towards her eyes.
