These pictures were taken at a Girl Scout camp called Camp of the Hills. I chose to take the picture of the lake because I liked the way the log framed the view of the lake. The reason I chose to photograph this pile of firewood was that I liked the feeling of rhythm and repetition it created. With both photos, I wanted to create a serene, yet solitary and rustic feel.
These photos were taken from the underside of a pine tree in my backyard. I loved the look of the snow behind the needles, and wanted to capture the layering of the branches. The second image is further away, and I was trying to create a feeling of vertigo by tilting the camera and showing a wider view of the tree. I had trouble taking these pictures because snow kept falling and obscuring the view of the camera.
These images were taken in a local park in the woods. I really liked the look of the curving branches of these small trees, so I decided to picture them from beneath, where you can see contrast with the sky. I tried to edit them so that the color of the snow does not blend into the color of the sky, but instead creates an interesting contrast as well. These images are supposed to feel contrasting, while still showing a similar view. The first image is very chaotic, while the second feels more geometric and ordered.
I wanted to photograph these flowers because I thought that the snow over them created an interesting texture. While editing, I had a bit of trouble bringing out the color of the flowers. The image is meant to feel slightly solemn, as the beauty of the flower is covered by the snow until spring, when hope comes again. The first image is meant to show 3D space using foreground, middle ground, and background.
These images were taken in the same woods as the earlier ones. The two images have almost opposite meanings. The tree represents a promise for strength and growth, while the bushes create a constricting feeling by the use of the branches coming down from the top. These pictures were taken in the same location, but feel very different.
