Porthole
For this photo I had the idea to use this window as a framing device. I wanted to highlight the contrast between the light of the outside and the dark of the inside in order to make the colorful scene pop out more. I used the rule of thirds to position the little white tower in an eye catching location.
Victoria Falls
In order to take this picture, I had to find the perfect positioning through the trees. I took this picture with my basic film camera and I think it adds a hazy look that goes really nicely with the colors of the photo. I like how the photo is framed with the bushes framing the rainbow. The bushes as a foreground also add contrast to the photo.
Sunset Jeep Ride
It's difficult to take pictures of the direct sun, but in this case I like the lens flare effect. The way the sun and jeep are positioned diagonally fills the frame of the photo nicely. I edited this photo to make the yellow even more saturated, which fits with the desert-like atmosphere of the setting.
Beach Camping
The lines of the trees, water, and sand serve as leading lines which draw your eye to the horizon. I also like the visual balance of green on both sides of the image from my friend's sweatshirt and the trees. The post is positioned so that it fits the rule of thirds.
Behind the Bookshelf
I made the choice to leave my dog Suki out of focus in this image which creates an interesting effect. In this image I framed Suki with the books, but kept the books themselves as the focus of the photo. I edited it to make the lighting even warmer because I think it adds to the comfortable, cozy feeling of the photo.
